Some may say Diana Taurasi. Some may say Sheryl Swoopes. Some may even say Lisa Leslie. However, at this point, it is hard to deny that A'ja Wilson is the greatest player ever to grace a basketball court. During a 101-91 victory over the Seattle Storm, the Las Vegas Aces superstar smashed another WNBA scoring record to cement herself at the top of a legendary list of names.
For many, 34 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists, and three blocks would be the highlight performance of their entire career -- not for A'ja Wilson. This was just one of many dominant displays that have propelled her to three WNBA championships at the age of 29. Not only that, but these numbers have allowed her to make history once again.
Wilson became the fastest (278 games) and youngest player to reach 6,000 career points, surpassing elite talents such as Diana Taurasi (291 games) and Breanna Stewart (293 games).
A'ja Wilson is just relentless 😱

She eclipses the 6K career points milestone, becoming the fastest and youngest player in WNBA history to do so!

On the same night, Wilson proved she is far from just an offensive talisman; she is also a player who will retire as one of the league's most dominant defenders. During the win, Wilson passed Tangela Smith (557) for seventh place in the WNBA's all-time blocks list.
This is just the beginning for A'ja Wilson
Unfortunately for her opponents, A'ja Wilson is going nowhere anytime soon, and unless they can find a way to prize her away from the Las Vegas Aces, then she will continue to terrorise them on both sides of the floor for years to come.
What is most impressive about the South Carolina legend is the consistent nature in which she puts up such outrageous stat lines. Over her nine-year career, Wilson has averaged 21.6 points, 9.4 rebounds, and two blocks, while shooting 49.9% from the floor.
Most notably, she has the respect of her peers, fans, and the media across the league. This has been proven by the countless accolades she has reaped during her time in the WNBA. So far, her resume boasts:
- 3x WNBA championships
- 4x WNBA MVP.
- 3x WNBA Defensive Player of the Year
- 2x WNBA Finals MVP
- 2018 Rookie of the Year
- 6x All-WNBA Selections
- 5x All-Defensive Team Selections
The GOAT debate will always divide opinion, not only in the WNBA but across the sporting world. Of course, there are plenty of factors to consider, like the quality of facilities, better coaching, and the growing use of technology. In fact, all of these arguments are more prominent due to the increased funding and evolution of the women's game.
However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to argue with the narrative that A'ja Wilson is the greatest basketball player of all time -- and her latest record-breaking antics only strengthen that opinion.
