The Golden State Valkyries and the city of San Francisco will host WNBA All-Star in 2027 — one more sign that the organization means business. The Valkyries, who have officially clinched a spot in the WNBA playoffs and are ranked No. 2 in the league, announced the news Tuesday. Next year's event will mark the first time that California has hosted the WNBA All-Star Weekend.
The Valkyries will host All-Star events at the Chase Center, the same venue they've sold out every single time they've played a home game.
The Valkyries are having an incredible 2026 season
This season has been undeniably awesome for the Valkyries, but it's possible some of their toughest battles lie ahead. Though the team is second in the league, they haven't managed to win against the Minnesota Lynx (who are ranked No. 1 overall) and the Las Vegas Aces (who are ranked No. 3 overall) this year. That's a reality slightly dampens the team's playoffs high — but it doesn't mean they can't manage to beat the teams when it matters the most.
The success of this season has been a team-wide effort. The Valkyries have seen strong performances from Gabby Williams (who is averaging 14.9 points and 3.3 rebounds this season) and Veronica Burton (12.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists), and the team's second unit of players has fought just as hard as its first string. The Valkyries are the rare team that is deep up and down the bench, and Golden State has come to rely on Kaitlyn Chen, Tiffany Hayes, and Janelle Salaun to provide boosts when needed — something the trio has readily and repeatedly done.
One of the most appealing aspects of the Valkyries is the team's overall culture, something they've been deliberate about building since day one. Head coach Natalie Nakase has repeatedly spoken to the importance of nurturing and maintaining that culture, and it's something that permeates fans and even Ballhalla — as the Chase Center is known — itself. The Valkyries are all-in for each other and for their fans, and their culture is one that is circular; everyone involved feeds everyone else.
As a result, Golden State is delighting fans in California and beyond, positioning themselves to do some serious damage in the playoffs, and always inching closer and closer to the team's goal of a WNBA Championship in the first five years. If it's not this year, it's soon.
