Baylor’s dominance continues

The Baylor Lady Bears (26-1) continued their Big 12 reign by clinching their 10th straight conference title, the longest active streak in the country.

Baylor cruised through the Big 12 this season, currently posing a 15-0 conference record with three games remaining in the regular season.

More from Big 12

The Lady Bears have completely dismantled their conference foes, outscoring them by double digits for 13 out of 15 games.

As a team, Baylor is dominating the conference in all statistical categories. They are putting up 79.67 points, 44.7 rebounds and 21.9 assists per game against the Big 12 while only allowing 53.47 points, 30.9 rebounds and a measly 9.2 assists per game against them.

The Lady Bears are shooting 49.7 percent from the field while the rest of the conference is shooting 31.5% from the field against them.

Head Coach Kim Mulkey, who just recently earned her 600th win, has a roster full of all-around talent, led by three WNBA Draft hopefuls, Lauren Cox, Te’a Cooper and Juicy Landrum, who have all shined in conference play thus far.

Cox is averaging 11.8 points, 8 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game with 49 and 22 total blocks and steals, respectively.

Although she has only played in 19 games, her presence down low is intimidating to opponents with defensive prowess and an offensive post-presence.

She is shooting 45.5% from the field with all but six of her total shots coming from in the paint.

Te’a Cooper is averaging a team leading 14 points, 2.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game with 49 total steals.

The graduate transfer from powerhouse South Carolina is continuing her success from her sole active season, she transferred from Tennessee after her medical redshirt season and took a second redshirt when she arrived at USC, and has vastly improved her scoring and shooting.

She is a shooting guard but isn’t afraid to dish it out to her teammates and find the open player which can disorient opponents. She is on track to achieve the 50-40-80 depending on her shooting efficiency down the stretch.

Juicy Landrum is averaging 11.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists with 27 total steals.

Just like Cooper, Landrum has greatly improved her shooting efficiency and is even closer to achieving a 50-40-80. Although her averages in rebounds and assists are down, she knows her role as a shoot-first player and it has paid off.

Looking ahead

Baylor will conclude the 2019-2020 regular season by hosting both Kansas State on Feb. 29 and Texas on March 5 before heading to Ames to take on Iowa State on March 8.

The Big 12 tournament will be played from March 12-15 in Kansas City.

Baylor, as the no. 1 seed, is awarded the Day 1 bye and will compete against the winner of Game 1, either the 8th or 9th seed, on March 13.
