5. Phoenix Mercury select Beatrice Mompremier, 6’4 F/C, Miami

When Brittney Griner was on the floor for the Phoenix Mercury last season, the team’s effective field goal percentage was 54%. When she wasn’t? 44.4 percent, a massive drop. Put simply, the Mercury need to figure out a way to get easy baskets when the perennial mismatch Griner is not on the floor, and not just from beyond three-point range. Enter Mompremier, who might be the most versatile scorer in this draft, with WNBA size already, an extended range that takes her beyond the arc now, and an array of post moves that absolutely should translate. Her free throw shooting has even improved, nearing 70% this year after sitting below 60% each of the past two seasons, and she’s producing despite sitting first on any opposing coach’s scouting report of Miami.
