12. Washington Mystics select Aari McDonald, 5’7 G, Arizona

Let’s say you were a team with a vital but veteran guard in Kristi Toliver. You could hardly find a more Toliver-like player in the collegiate ranks than Aari McDonald, she of the fearless shooting, the ability to jump into passing lanes and force turnovers, the point guard of sorts who can create her own shot. There’s a reason Toliver has played for so many champions, and why McDonald’s Arizona is currently the toast of the Pac-12, one of the country’s biggest surprises. League evaluators are currently talking about her like Kelsey Plum was discussed ahead of her big run with Washington in the NCAA Tournament her junior year. Expect much the same of McDonald, and if she elects to come out early, don’t imagine she’ll be available by the time the second round begins.
