Cox, who began her career in college athletic administration but made the jump the WNBA in 2004.

After nine seasons with the Phoenix, Mercury Cox left the WNBA, taking a job with the Big East Conference as the Associate Commissioner for Women’s Basketball.

In a May 9 profile of Cox, published on the Sun’s website she stated, “There are so many women like myself who have had great mentors that way to pay it forward to both men and women,” Cox said.

“So, if I get an email or a phone call from any student, I will always take that call and have that conversation about their personal journey and where they may be getting hung up or what should they do next in terms of a career path or choice.”

Cox can often be found walking around the arena interacting with fans and media and setting an example for the girls and young women in the audience.
