Expect a shakeup in the rankings

The No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country suffered their first losses of the season on Saturday.

No. 8 Louisville beat No. 1 Oregon 72-62 at the Paradise Jam and No. 5 South Carolina beat reigning champions, No. 2 Baylor, 74-59. With the win, the Gamecocks took home the Paradise Jam Reef Division title and ended the Bears’ 36-game win-streak.

Saturday was also the first time since the 2011 Final Four that the two highest ranked teams lost on the same day. No. 3 Stanford held off Mississippi State, 67-62, to avoid more history being made.

Kylee Shook led Louisville with 18 points and 15 rebounds, Dana Evans  added 17 points and Elizabeth Balogun and Jazmine Jones pitched in 11 and 10 points, respectively. For Oregon, Satou Sabally led the way with 21 points and 10 rebounds and Ruthy Hebard also added a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Minyon Moore added 15 points and Sabrina Ionescu added 13. As a team, Oregon shot 34.2% from the floor and 17.1% from three.

For South Carolina, Aliyah Boston, also named Paradise Jam Reef Division MVP, scored a career-high 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Tyasha Harris led the Gamecocks with 20 points and 7 assists. Mikiah Hebert Harrigan added 13 points and 8 rebounds.

Baylor is still without Lauren Cox due to a foot injury, but NaLyssa Smith led the Bears with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Both Te’a Cooper and Juicy Landrum added 10 points.

There likely will be a shakeup in the upcoming national rankings. South Carolina previously lost to No. 17 Indiana earlier in the Paradise Jam. In the top 5, both No. 3 Stanford and No. 4 UConn remain undefeated.
