One of the country’s best high school players, Angel Reese, has committed to Brenda Frese and the Maryland Terrapins.

Angel Reese, the No. 2 ranked high school player in the class of 2020, according to ESPN, is staying home. Reese, a 6’3 wing from Baltimore, Maryland, has committed to attend the University of Maryland. Reese currently attends St. Frances Academy and plays AAU for Team Takeover.

Reese made her decision on Friday evening, as a part of her school’s Midnight Madness event, and chose the Terrapins over Syracuse and South Carolina, who also made her final three. Reese is an extremely unique player and will have an immediate impact on Brenda Frese’s team when she arrives on campus in 2020.

More from Big Ten Conference

Reese is a terrific post player, with quick and meticulous footwork in the post. She brings fantastic touch to the post as well. Her ability to handle the basketball extremely well for her position,is another factor that will create immediate mismatch opportunities for her.  Her face-up game has improved significantly as well. She will need to continue to work on her outside shooting consistency, but Reese will arrive at College Park ready and able to play multiple positions for the Terps.

While her offensive game is clearly one of the country’s best, it’s her defensive ability where she may make the biggest impact. She has the length to guard either post position, and the quickness to guard multiple guard positions as well. She may be a matchup nightmare for defenses because of her offensive prowess, but Reese brings the same type of mismatch advantages for her team to the defensive end.

Reese marks the first commitment in the 2020 class for Frese. The Terrapins are ranked No. 4 in the country, according to the preseason AP Poll, and open up the season tomorrow against Wagner.
