The Atlanta Dream are on the move from State Farm Arena to Hawks’ G-League arena in College Park.

After spending the 2019 season at State Farm Arena in downtown Atlanta, the Atlanta Dream will play its 2020 home games at the Gateway Center in College Park, a newly-constructed arena that will also house the College Park Skyhawks, the Atlanta Hawks’ G-League affiliate.

“We are fortunate to have great support in Atlanta and a new venue that wants to be our partner,” said general manager Chris Sienko in a statement. “Designed to create a professional sports experience for players, fans and sponsors, it will offer a unique and intimate experience for our fans and establish an amazing home-court experience that the athletes will feel on the floor. This will all be supported by modern amenities to build an engaging and exciting community experience for our fans.”

More from Atlanta Dream

The Gateway Center will seat 3,500 for basketball games — a significant downgrade in capacity from State Farm, which sat 16,600, but a capacity more attainable for the Dream, who averaged 4,270 fans per game in 2019. Across the league, other teams like the Washington Mystics have made the switch to a smaller arena, and the Mystics filled their new arena more times than not in 2019.

The Dream also announced a new brand and logo to accompany the move to College Park. Per a team release, a new court design and updated uniforms will be revealed in advance of the 2020 season.

“The Atlanta Dream’s new brand reflects our strong heritage as a city and a team, while looking toward the future,” Sienko said in a statement. “Our team worked closely with (Atlanta designer) David Tann to reflect the strength of diversity, talent and athleticism that all Dream fans and the City of Atlanta can be proud to wear.”

The new branding is the first change in brand identity since the team’s inception in 2008.
