A look at the victorious Sky after Wednesday’s game

Our Chicago Sky reporter, Nick Niendorf, takes a closer look at all things Sky following the team’s thrilling Wednesday victory over the Atlanta Dream.

More from Chicago Sky

“A ridiculous feed from Courtney Vandersloot by Stefanie Dolson with 2.5 seconds left on the clock afterwards,” Niendorf recalled seeing. “The Sky, of course ,had come back from a 10-point deficit and as with many Sky wins —the broadcast booth made note of this — but as with many Sky wins, it was ugly. But a win’s a win and that has been the story of a lot of Sky games this season.”

For Niendorf, the Sky have been a different, tougher sort of team this year compared to what he thought James Wade’s roster would produce.

“This team is much grittier than I thought,” Niendorf said. “They still have their lapses on defense. They have a lot of lapses on defense, but they are able to kind of lock in, lock down and and play tough basketball, which was not something I necessarily expected from the Sky this year considering the new offensive style that was coming in.

“But really when you think about it, with players like Courtney Vandersloot and Gabby Williams and Diamond DeShields and Kahleah Copper, those are the types of players that you want to go to war with and that’s what the Sky have done consistently this year.”
