Coach Brenda Frese makes coaching staff updates

Over the past few months, coaching changes have been swarming throughout the NCAA. Here’s a short recap of some changes that have happened over the past few months: Courtney Banghart left Princeton and has taking over as the new coach for the University of North Carolina… to Kellie Harper replacing Holly Warlick as the head coach for the Tennessee Lady Vols and even staff changes such as the Iowa Hawkeyes moving staff members around.

Another staff update has taken place in College Park, as head coach Brenda Frese announced the promotions of Kaitlynn Fratz, Keith Pough, Sean Ehlbeck, and Joe Glowacki. Along with the four promotions coach Frese also announced the addition of former Penn State and South Carolina point guard Lindsay Spann.

More from Big Ten Conference

In 2017 Fratz began her coaching career with the Maryland Terrapins. Following the 2017-2018 season, Fratz was given an interim assistant coach position. Fratz’s performance handling her interim tasks as assistant coach has led coach Frese to allow Fratz to continue in this role as assistant coach.

Pough will continue his responsibilities as Assistant Director of Basketball Performance. Much like Fratz, Pough has worked his way to a permanent full-time position in the Lady Terps basketball program. He started off as an intern during the 2016-2017 basketball season, and will continue to perform as overseer of the players strength, fitness, and nutrition.

“Both Kaitlynn and Keith earned their positions all year long in the roles they undertook,” Frese said. “They have a tireless work ethic and incredible passion for Maryland and our program. I am beyond thrilled to extend them the opportunity to be with us for a very long time in their careers.”

Ehlbeck has moved from Director of Video to the Director of Scouting position. In Ehlbeck’s former role he supervised film and took on game prepartions for scouting against opponents.

Glowacki will take over Ehlbeck former’s role as Director of Video. Before becoming Director of Video, Glowacki worked for three seasons as the Director of Recruiting Operations. Glowacki will now prepare film, advanced scouting, and handle social media content for the Terrapins.

Spann played at both the University of South Carolina and Penn State University.

During the 2018-2019 season, Spann was a graduate assistant at the University of South Carolina. Spann got to work under coach Dawn Staley as she finished her master’s degree in sport and entertainment management.

What Spann brings to the Terrapins coaching staff is knowledge of the game and of the Big Ten conference.

For Penn State, Spann was a 1,000 point scorer, while also earning All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors in 2016.

In Spann’s lone season as a Gamecock she averaged 10.3 points per game and she over 43.5 percent from the field.
