Six Candidates Who Could Replace Lindsay Gottlieb at California
By Matt Ward
Shannon Perry
Perry just completed her eighth season as an assistant coach under head coach Cori Close, at UCLA. Prior to going to UCLA, Perry spent time as an assistant at Duke, USC, and her alma mater, Iowa. In eight seasons with the Bruins, Perry has helped lead them to a 150-86 overall record, including five NCAA Tournament appearances. The Bruins lost to UConn in the Sweet 16 this past season. Those who have worked with or played for Perry talk about her work ethic, knowledge of the game, and the ability to connect to her players. As a recruiter, Perry has proven to be one of the country’s best. UCLA landed two of the country’s top-25 recruits in the 2019 class in Jaden Owen and Charisma Osborne. Perry may not have experience as a head coach at the division one level, like Langley or Fortier, but she has proven herself to be a dynamic and effective coach and teacher of the game. Perry would bring an already strong ability to recruit top student-athletes, and particularly, the ties to California high school and AAU teams, which she has developed throughout her time at UCLA. Cal bringing in one of the country’s best assistant coaches — within the state of California — from UCLA? Perry would be a great fit for the Bears.
