Jonquel Jones and DeWanna Bonner win WNBA player of the week honors

Connecticut Sun star forward Jonquel Jones continues to shine as she has won back-to-back player of the week honors.

This week Jones averaged 17.5 points per game, 10.5 rebounds per game, and 5.0 blocks per game.

More from Connecticut Sun

Overall, Jones is averaging a league best 13.0 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game, making her the only player to lead the WNBA in two statistical categories.

The dominate play of Jones has not only spearheaded the Connecticut Sun’s 5-1 start but it has also helped her team land the number one spot in the WNBA standings.

One of the most impressive turnarounds that we have seen from Jones this season is her ability to connect from the stripe.

A season ago Jones shot just 67.1 percent from the charity stripe, this season she is shooting a career-best 85.2 percent.

Western Conference Player of the Week

DeWanna Bonner filled up the stat sheet this past week, ultimately leading her to being named the Western Conference player of the week.

The two-time WNBA champion is leading the league in scoring, averaging a career-best 23.3 points per game.

In the Mercury’s last two games, Bonner averaged 25.0 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game, and 3.0 assist per game.

The 10th-year veteran put together back-to-back standout performances, one coming in a loss to the Minnesota Lynx and another in a win over the Indiana Fever.

In Minnesota, Bonner went off for 25 points, shooting 9-for-18 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.

Against the Fever, Bonner scored 25 points and had zero turnovers in 31 minutes of play.
