What Marta Sniezek’s transfer to Notre Dame means for the Irish
By Matt Ward
Sniezek will be immediately eligible for the Fighting Irish
Stanford senior Marta Sniezek will be a graduate transfer to Notre Dame this coming season, and will be immediately eligible for Head Coach Muffet McGraw and the Fighting Irish.
Sniezek — who missed her senior season with Stanford due to injuries — will look to make an immediate impact on a Notre Dame team who lost all five of its starters, as well as Danielle Patterson, who transferred to Indiana. Notre Dame returns just six players from last year’s national runner-up team, and Sniezek will join the likes of fellow graduate transfer, Destinee Walker (UNC), as well newcomers Samantha Brunelle and Anaya Peoples.

Throughout her time at Stanford, Sniezek was best known for her tenacity on the defensive end and her precision on the offensive end. Sniezek was named an honorable mention to the All Pac-12 Defensive team in her junior year, while starting 32 of 35 games. On the offensive end, she proved herself to be a terrific ball handler and passer, averaging 4.3 assists per game in her junior campaign.
In both her freshman and sophomore seasons, Sniezek played in every game for the Cardinal, starting in nine of those games in each season, while being an honorable mention to the All Pac-12 Freshman team in her first year.
Sniezek will be joining a new-look Notre Dame team that will be putting virtually an entirely new team on the court come November. Sniezek brings tremendous experience — both in-season and in the postseason — as well as tremendous leadership ability at the guard position, and is a great addition to Coach McGraw’s team.
