University of Maryland lands former All-American Mimi Collins
Mimi Collins, the Waldorf, Maryland native, announced Monday via social media outlets Instagram and Twitter that she will be returning home to play for Brenda Frese and the Maryland Terrapins.
Collins played her high school basketball at Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax, VA.
In 2018, Collins was named VISAA Player of the Year, Washington Post All-Met First Team and a McDonalds All-American.
The 6’3 forward played one season of SEC basketball at the University of Tennessee before deciding to part ways with the Lady Vols upon the hiring of new head coach Kellie Harper.
As a freshman, Collins appeared in all 32 games and averaged 5.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.
Last season, Collins and former Tennessee teammate Zaay Green were the only freshman on the Lady Vols roster to obtain SEC Freshman of The Week honors.

Showing promise and growth throughout her freshman season, Collins finished her final game as a Lady Vol with a career-high 14 points in 32 minutes of play.
It is still unknown if Collins will be able to play next season, or if she will have to sit out due to NCAA transfer rules.
Without Collins and the incoming 2019-2020 class, The Terps finished with a 29-5 record last season.
The Terps fell short in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to UCLA, 85-80.
With Maryland’s entire starting five returning to College Park next season, the Terps could be an early preseason favorite to win the Big Ten title.
The news follows fellow former Lady Vol Evina Westbrook’s choice a few weeks ago to transfer. Westbrook has landed at Connecticut, where she’ll play for Geno Auriemma.
