Bria Goss is waived, but not before her story of bravery and perseverance is told.

The Indiana Fever trimmed its roster to 13 on Tuesday by waiving rookie Bria Goss. Be sure to read this story by Gregg Doyel to learn what an amazing accomplishment it was for Goss to earn a spot on the Fever’s training camp roster.

Goss was undrafted when she graduated from Kentucky in 2015.  She played overseas in Finland and Israel.  While she was in Finland in 2016, she began experiencing serious health problems.  In August 2017, Goss had a hysterectomy to remove a cancerous tumor.

In 2018, she worked as a bartender at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse to earn extra money.

More from Indiana Fever

Goss told Doyel that she cried tears of joy when she received an invitation to the Fever’s training camp. The Indiana-native grew up watching them.

She played in all three of the Fever’s preseason games and scored five points.

Goss was the 2011 Indiana Miss Basketball and the 2012 SEC Freshman of the Year. She ranked 17th in Kentucky history with 1,318 career points when she graduated in 2015.

Fever head coach and general manager Pokey Chatman will have to waive one more player on or before May 23. Even though rookie Paris Kea was a third-round pick, she thoroughly impressed Chatman during the preseason. The 5-foot-9 guard was third on the Fever with 7.7 points per game during the preseason and earned key minutes down the stretch during Indiana’s final preseason game in Dallas. It appears her roster spot is secure.
