Incarnate Word- Southland

Departed coach/record:  Christy Smith, 3 seasons (19-68 overall, 16-38 in the Southland)

Reason for departure:  The school announced it would not be renewing Smith’s contract. Letting a coach go after just three seasons is a quick trigger, but the school clearly felt that the right progress wasn’t being made.

New coach/previous position: Jeff Dow, Louisiana Monroe head coach- After walking away from Louisiana-Monroe at the conclusion of his contract due, in part, to feeling like the school didn’t provide the resources necessary to be successful, Dow takes over an Incarnate Word program desperate for some sign of life. Just 5-24 a season ago, and with just 19 wins in the past three seasons combined, the San Antonio based school turns to a veteran head coach to get things going.

Dow struggled at UL-Monroe but had an uber-successful tenure at Anderson University (D2), as well as Indiana University of Pennsylvania (D2). Both he and Incarnate Word hope this fit will bring about his level of success at those two stops.
