Chennedy Carter returns to the Aggie lineup

Despite a spoiled bracket reveal, life marched on for every program waiting to hear their name called on Monday. For Texas A&M, this month has treated them especially well. Not only will the Aggies host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament as a No. 4 seed in the Chicago region, but Chennedy Carter will also make her return to the lineup.

Carter missed the entirety of the SEC Tournament, due to a fractured finger that happened on March 3, but has officially been cleared to join March Madness. If you remember Carter in last year’s NCAA Tournament, you know the Aggies will need her swagger again in 2019. Not only was she clutch in every sense of the word, but averaged over 30 points per game, which is the fourth-highest average in NCAA Tournament history.

Texas A&M will go into the tournament at 24-7 overall. Without Carter in the SEC Tournament, the Aggies beat Auburn, but fell to Arkansas by seven in the semifinals.

It’s tough not having your go-to player, who was averaging 22.5 points, 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game before getting hurt. The 2017-18 unanimous National Freshman of the Year has been equally impressive in year two, breaking Texas A&M’s sophomore scoring record with 584 points (and counting) and being recently named a Wooden Award finalist.

Carter on the floor fundamentally changes Texas A&M’s outlook.

In the first round, Texas A&M takes on Wright State, who is undeniably hot right now. The Raiders all but ran the table in the Horizon League this year, winning 14 of its last 15 games and notching a program-high 27 wins in the 2018-19 campaign. A win over Texas A&M, with Carter and a homecourt advantage, would be an upset to write home about.
