Disrupt the Game, indeed

Multiple sources have confirmed to High Post Hoops that the center of the WNBA offseason, current Dallas Wings big Liz Cambage, is currently being represented by WNBA agent Allison Galer.

Galer chose not to comment on the record when reached by High Post Hoops.

Galer, whose agency Disrupt the Game also represents free agent point guard Chelsea Gray, New York Liberty center Amanda Zahui B. and WNBA legend Lisa Leslie, is thus central to the resolution of the WNBA offseason.

At the moment, all sides are in a holding pattern following Cambage’s decision to ask for a trade from the Dallas Wings, where she posted an immensely valuable 2018, including a 30.7 player efficiency rating, while helping to lead the Wings into the playoffs.

Cambage has, so far, refused to consider any destination other than Los Angeles. This is problematic for several reasons on Dallas’ end. For instance, the best package Los Angeles could offer is almost certainly smaller than what Las Vegas, which has expressed interest, could provide, with the latter deal centering around the top overall pick in the 2019 draft.

More from Los Angeles Sparks

Of course, Cambage has both the option and the history to support the notion that if she isn’t traded to her preferred destination, she will sit out the 2019 season. She joined the WNBA in 2011, only to sit out in 2012, return in 2013, then did not play in the league again until 2018, lured back by her relationship with Fred Williams, who communicated with her for several years.

Williams, of course, is no longer the head coach in Dallas, following an altercation with Dallas president Greg Bibb last August after a loss in Washington. Williams’ new gig? Assistant to Derek Fisher… in Los Angeles.

Still, as one WNBA source put it, “Las Vegas would treat Liz like a queen”, and there is little question that a team with Cambage, A’ja Wilson, Kayla McBride, Kelsey Plum and Moriah Jefferson would provide endless matchup problems and be considered among the favorites to win the WNBA championship.

Galer, meanwhile, also has Gray unsigned, the point guard who looms as one of the most vital members of the recent Sparks.

Ultimately, other than the WNBA Draft on April 10, nothing will provide more clarity for what the 2019 WNBA landscape looks like than the ultimate destinations of Cambage and Gray.

Now, both will be steered by one agent. Rest assured, Allison Galer’s phone won’t stop ringing anytime soon.
