Kristine Anigwe wins her fifth Player of the Week Award this season

Cal’s Kristine Anigwe was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week for games played last week. It is the fifth time this season that Anigwe has taken home the weekly honors, and the eight time overall she’s won the award.

In two games for the Golden Bears last week, both road wins, Anigwe averaged 26.0 points per game on 63.2 percent shooting from the field, and 24.0 rebounds.

She began the week with a modest, for her standards, 20 points on 62.5 percent shooting from the floor, 18 rebounds, and two blocked shots in the Golden Bears’ 71-65 win over Washington. But the best was yet to come.

She followed that up with a record setting performance, finishing with 32 points and 30 rebounds in the Bears’ 80-58 win over Washington State. The 30 rebounds is a Pac-12 record and the most for any player in NCAA Division 1 this season. It is also the first time in 17 years that a player has finished with at least 30 points and 30 rebounds.

Anigwe will finish her college career third all-time in the Pac-12 for rebounds with 1,347. She has been one of the most dominant players not only the conference this season, but in the nation. On the season, she’s putting up 23.1 points per game on 52.8 percent shooting from the field, 16.4 rebounds, and 1.7 blocked shots.

Her 23.1 points are good enough for sixth overall in the nation and her rebounding mark is the best in the nation. She’s a very skilled post player and will likely be one of the top draft picks in the WNBA Draft next month.

The Golden Bears finished off conference play this week and will head into the Pac-12 Tournament this week as the 7th seed in a first round matchup against No. 10 Washington State.
