We saw some amazing things on Sunday as the Atlantic Coast Conference wrapped up the women’s basketball regular season. We saw a triple double, we saw seedings change and we saw an ACC scoring champion decided by the thinnest of margins.
Young’s outstanding game highlights Irish rout on senior day
Fourth-ranked Notre Dame secured the top stop in this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference tournament in convincing fashion on Sunday, but what got people buzzing was the performance of Jackie Young in the 103-66 win over Virginia.
The 6-foot junior gave up her starting spot so Maureen Butler could be in the lineup on senior day, but Young still finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists to become the first Notre Dame player to notch two triple-doubles in the same season.
She clinched the triple-double less than two minutes into the fourth quarter by pulling down an offensive board and passing to Brianna Turner.
“Jackie can average a triple-double if she wanted to,” Turner said. “She’s just that type of player. She can score, she can rebound, she can get the assist — really any stat she wanted to — so her triple-double didn’t surprise me.”
“We’re not done yet.”

Young was one of three players who posted 20-point performances for the Irish. Arike Ogunbowale had 24 points, while Turner finished with 21. Jessica Shepard added 19 for Notre Dame, which enters the tournament having won six in a row by an average of 32.5 points.
