Pac-12 Player of the Week is Cal’s Recee Caldwell
A grad transfer pays off for Cal.
Cal’s Recee Caldwell was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week for games played last week. It is the first time in her college career that she’s taken home the weekly honors.
In two games the Golden Bears played last week, both wins, Caldwell averaged 22.0 points per game on 57.1 percent shooting from the field, 61.5 percent from the three-point line, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.
She was instrumental in the Bears 69-60 upset over Arizona State, finishing with 20 points on 58.3 percent shooting from the floor, 66.7 percent from the three-point line, three rebounds, and five assists. She followed that up with 24 points on 56.2 percent shooting, 57.1 percent from the three-point line, five rebounds, and four assists in the Bears 82-76 win over Arizona.

In the win over Arizona State, Caldwell had 17 of her 20 points in the third quarter as the Bears rallied back from being down double-digits. Against Arizona, she hit the game-tying three-point shot to send the game to overtime. Her 24 points against the Wildcats were a season high.
On the season, Caldwell is averaging 9.7 points per game on 41.5 percent shooting from the floor, 36.8 percent from three-point range, 2.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 81.8 percent from the free-throw line.
This will be Caldwell’s first and only season with Cal as she is a graduate transfer. She’s bounced around a bit, beginning her college career at UCLA during the 2014-15 season before transferring to Texas Tech where she was an All Big-12 Honorable Mention. Her second season with the Lady Raiders was cut short due to an injury.
She’s been a key staple in the Bears backcourt this season and it might be tough for Cal to replace her next season.
The Bears will wrap up conference play this week with two road games at Washington and Washington State.
