The records keep coming for the esteemed Big Ten coaching crew.

As if reaching 1,000 wins  just last month was not enough, C. Vivian Stringer has once again reached another milestone.

Stringer, after her Rutgers Scarlet Knights defeated the Northwestern Wildcats, 45-41, became the first Big Ten Women’s basketball coach to record 200 victories in conference play.  This was no easy win for Stringer and company after returning from a holiday break. Rutgers ended up taming a Northwestern comeback to open Big Ten play with a win at the RAC.

Following a third quarter surge for the Wildcats, senior forward Victoria Harris registered a steal in the waning seconds of the final quarter to deny the comeback and seal the win with a successful trip to the free throw line.

With that win, Rutgers improved to an overall mark of 8-3, a Big Ten record of 1-0, and a home mark of 6-0.

Junior guard Ciani Cryor scored 13 in the win to lead Rutgers, including two 3-pointers. Redshirt-senior forward Stasha Carey’s nine rebounds led the Scarlet Knights, to go with her six points.

Also Friday, Purdue head coach Sharon Versyp earned her 121st Big Ten win over Ohio State. Versyp broke Lin Dunn’s mark, and she is now 121-82 in conference play in this, her 13th conference season.

Her 121 career Big Ten wins are eighth most all-time in the conference and third-most among active coaches.

“It’s pretty exciting to continue the winning tradition at Purdue, first as a player and now as our coach,” said Versyp in a press release. “I appreciate every player and coach that has been a part of this over the last 13 seasons and look forward to furthering this success.”

Purdue improved to 10-4 overall and opened conference play with a win for the 21st time in program history and the ninth time in Versyp’s tenure.

And the milestones don’t stop there for Big Ten coaches, either: Maryland’s Brenda Frese is just two wins from 500 in her career.
