UC Irvine’s Jordan Sanders named Big West Player of the Week
Another win for the Anteater.
UC Irvine’s Jordan Sanders was named the Big West Conference Player of the week for games played last week. It was Sanders’ third time in the past four weeks being named player of the week this season.
Sanders had her best game of the season this past week in a win over Portland. She put up a career-high 29 points on 72.2 percent shooting from the field. She also had five rebounds, six steals, and three blocked shots.
Not only was it Sanders’ best game of her young college career, she almost single-handedly extended a one point Anteater lead at halftime to a blowout by scoring 19 of her points in the last 20 minutes of the game.
Sanders was the Big West Freshman of the Year last season, as well as being named an honorable mention on the all-conference team. She’s picked up right where she left off now in her sophomore season.

She’s the Anteaters leading scorer at 21.1 points per game while shooting 54 percent from the field. She’s pulling down 7.5 rebounds per game as well. Not known as a shooter from distance, Sanders has only taken one attempt from the three-point line this season.
She is only behind Morgan Bertsch’s 23.3 points per game for second in the Big West in scoring. Overall, she is 19th in the nation in scoring, up from 24th the last time she won the award.
The Anteaters are off to an 8-1 start in non-conference play behind Sanders. It’s the best start in team history. They were undefeated the last time she won player of the week and have since dropped a single game against San Diego State.
The Anteaters will face perhaps their biggest test of the season when they travel to Oregon on Friday, Dec. 21.
