Another honor for an Anteater.
UC Irvine’s Jordan Sanders was named the Big West Conference Player of the week for games played last week. It was Sanders’ second consecutive time being named player of the week this season.
Sanders averaged 23.0 points per game, 9.0 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in two wins last week. She led the Anteaters as they defeated CSU Bakersfield and San Jose State. She had 22 points in the win over CSU Bakersfield and followed that up with 24 points and nine rebounds in the win over San Jose State.
A sophomore, Sanders was named Big West Freshman of the Year last season, as well as being named an honorable mention on the all-conference team. She made an immediate impact on the team, averaging 10.2 points per game while shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from the three-point line.

In her second year, she’s been the Anteaters leading scorer at 21.0 points per game and shooting 52.3 percent from the field. She’s also pulling down 8.2 rebounds per game. She has yet to attempt a three-point shot this season. She’s also getting to the free-throw line about 6.5 times a game where she shoots 76.9 percent.
She is second in the Big West in scoring behind UC Davis forward Morgan Bertsch’s 22.0 points per game. She is 24th overall in the nation in scoring.
Her best game of the season actually came before she was named player of the week, on Nov. 24 in a win over Indiana State. Indiana State had been undefeated to that point. In that game, she put up a season-high 25 points on 68.8 percent shooting, 11 rebounds, and four steals.
Sanders has led the Anteaters to a 7-0 start, their best start in team history. Not only are they one of only 24 teams remaining undefeated, they are the only team in the Big West with a winning record. She’s helped turn the program around from a team that went 5-26 in 2015-16, to a team that’s had a winning record since she’s been there.
The Anteaters will look to continue their winning streak this week with a home game against the San Diego State Aztecs on Dec. 7.
