The NCAA hits Oregon’s women’s team.

University of Oregon women’s basketball coach Kelly Graves will be suspended for two games as part of violations announced by the NCAA Committee on Infractions on Wednesday.

The decision states that Graves “failed to monitor and promote an atmosphere of compliance” in allowing an assistant strength and conditioning coach to participate in on-court activities, which the decision saying it came “at the head coach’s request.”

“The head women’s basketball coach explained during the committee’s infractions hearing that the on-court activities started with a lapse of judgement and then became more frequent,” the decision states. “The committee noted the women’s head coach admitted he knew it was impermissible for the assistant strength coach to participate.”

The same assistant strength coach also took place in voluntary student-athlete workouts, which the decision says Graves didn’t know specifically about the workout participation but “kind of assumed” it was happening, which is part of why the Committee on Infractions concluded that Graves had “disregard for the rules about impermissible coaching activity.”

The decision also announced that Oregon had violations in men’s basketball, women’s track and field and football.

During a press call, chief hearing officer Eleanor Myers said the fact that Graves, “actually participated in the violation and acknowledged that to us,” led to him being suspended.

As of 3:15 p.m. ET, Oregon has not released a statement on the findings. If Graves is suspended for the next two games, he will miss a Dec. 9 game at Michigan State and a Dec. 12 game at South Dakota State but return for the Top-10 matchup against Mississippi State on Dec. 18.
