The injury bug

Both Kia Vaughn and Epiphanny Prince left Tuesday nights game with injuries. Vaughn took a shot to the head in the second quarter and did not return to the game. Prince suffered what the Liberty team called a calf injury in the third quarter. The extent of both injuries is unknown at this time.

The Liberty just got Marissa Coleman back from injury, but lost Shavonte Zellous to injury on July 19. After Tina Charles, Vaughn, Prince, and Zellous are the three leading scorers for the team.

Block party

Kiah Stokes became the franchise leader in blocks early in Tuesday’s contest. She entered the 2018 season 11 blocks behind Liberty Ring of Honor member Sue Wicks. She now sits at number one with 156 career blocks for New York.

At the start of the season, Stokes was listed 10th in rebounds in a Liberty uniform. She has bought down 74 rebounds in 260 minutes this season, placing her sixth in boards (708) behind Teresa Weatherspoon (750). Injuries have stymied the development and playing time of Stokes with this franchise. However, a healthy Kiah Stokes can be a huge asset for the New York Liberty.
