2018 WNBA Draft Big Board v. 5.0: March movement
12. Phoenix Mercury: Monique Billings, 6’4 F UCLA
One of the big questions in the minds of several WNBA talent evaluators about Billings, whose athleticism and basketball IQ are not in question, is whether she had the strength to bang with WNBA fours and fives. The games against Texas and Mississippi State provided mixed answers. Against Jatarie White, Joyner Holmes and company, Billings went for 17 and 8, but turned the ball over seven times. Against the impossible task that is Teaira McCowan, she scored 12 on just 5-for-16 shooting, but clearly bothered McCowan at the defensive end, forcing her to miss eight shots, the most she’d missed in a month. Ultimately, Billings needs a three-point shot to start in the league, in all likelihood, but the more she can hang with bigs in the meantime, the more of a chance she’ll get.
