women’s basketball team, as well as being a student assistant. For my two years there we went 53-15 and had a birth in both the WNIT and NCAA tournaments. Once I graduated, I was hired as an assistant coach at D2 Merrimack College (MA) where I spent a year before going back to Gardner-Webb as an assistant. After two years at my alma mater, I had the great opportunity to join the staff at the University at Buffalo as an assistant. The seniors on this year’s Buffalo team are the last of the players I was fortunate enough to coach.
I stepped out of coaching and joined the media side when my wife was hired as an assistant coach at Mississippi State. Shortly after moving I joined the SEC Network as a broadcaster, something I’ve done for two years now. I also am deeply involved in the prep level on the scouting side. All that to say that I’ve been fortunate enough to meet a lot of great people and know that there are a ton of stories that deserve to be told.
My pod cast is a little different than most. The goal is for each episode to feature me, but several other people in our sport, sitting around a table and just talking. With the launch date coming right as the tournament started, our pilot episode is purely interview based, but as the tournament advances, you’ll get to enjoy hearing from a ton of great names in our world in a much more casual way. I hope you’ll subscribe and tune in. I welcome feedback anytime on Twitter @Coach_Blake_
For our pilot episode(s) we spoke with Oregon head coach Kelly Graves, USF head coach Jose Fernandez and CSUN head coach Jason Flowers. We also got a chance to speak with Georgia head coach Joni Taylor and WNBA legend Lindsay Whalen.
