Tina Charles of the New York Liberty was one of the biggest standouts at USA training camp last month, which is no surprise. The former Connecticut player has continued to elevate her game year after year and showcased that over the three-day span. The perennial MVP candidate is also the face of her Liberty team.

Tina said she wants to elevate her game every year because it helps her make the defense guess, but it also attracts the defense to her and her teammates are able to help out and do more.

When asked about the current ownership situation—the Liberty will play home games primarily in Westchester, not Madison Square Garden, while James Dolan explores a sale of the team—Tina seemed disappointed, but also determined. She said her job is to continue to be a force on both sides of the ball, but now she wants to reach the Weschester community.

She feels it’s a way to engage more fans that were maybe not able to get to games as easily as before. Katie Smith is taking over head coach this season and Tina looks forward to seeing how she runs things and adapting if needed to become a championship caliber team.
