If one wants to know what a conference rivalry is, look at Maryland and Ohio State. Maryland had never lost to a conference opponent when they joined the Big Ten, but  Ohio State came knocking on their door a year later and ended that feat. It is the type of rivalry that is not very heated, but the game and outcomes speak for itself.

Maryland has not beaten Ohio State since the 2014-2015 season. They lost twice during the 2015-2016 season and lost the only matchup in the 2016-2017 season. Tonight on the road with only seven players, Maryland had something to prove. Can they beat the

Ohio State coach McGuff stated how he felt about the rivalry since Maryland joined the Big Ten:

“We had played really well against them the last couple of years, and we didn’t have it tonight and they were very good they’ve been talking about that because they’ve had great seasons and great success in the Big Ten, but we had been pretty good against them. So I’m sure this was a game that it pointing to it as home and the opportunity kind of turn the tide and they did.”

We love great competition and we love great games. What it speaks on January 22nd is we lined up and put 40 minutes of great effort in and when you do that great things happen., but we still understand that we are seven games into the conference race and we had a valuable lesson against Michigan State that when we’re not in that groove anything can happen.

Last year, Maryland and Ohio State shared the Big Ten regular season title, despite Maryland losing to Ohio State in their only matchup. It looked for a second that Rutgers or even Iowa would be the frontrunners to win the conference although early. However, it goes right back to Maryland and Ohio State. It is very clear that this is the best matchup in the Big Ten. No other matchup has ever been able to compare and this dates back to the first Big Ten championship game in the 2014-2015 season.
