In what was to be her breakout season, Maryland announced that sophomore guard Blair Watson will miss the remainder of the 2017-2018 season. Watson tore her ACL in practice Wednesday.
Maryland already has a thin roster, with only ten players, but Watson now trims it to nine. Watson being out is huge blow for the Terps, as she was the second leading scorer. She averaged 13.8 points in her 17 games, and was ranked third in the league in three-point percentages (.441).
The bad news about Blair being out is that they will miss her presence outside the arc. She was the main proponent in really getting the game going. She was also beginning to grow her leadership on the floor as well. Not to mention she was a great player on defense.
Head coach Brenda Frese shared her sentiments regarding Watson and how her absence will impact them moving forward.
“Obviously, we’re disappointed for Blair,” “She was having a really fantastic season and we are going to miss her presence and playmaking ability on the court. We’ll do everything we can to help her in her recovery and support her through the process. This team has tremendous chemistry and will continue to compete at a high level.”
Maryland will play Michigan State, for its first game without Watson, but this team is a team that can play through any adversity and still stay being the premier squad Frese has coached them to be.
