Starting guard Tiana Mangakahia scored 44 points in the Thursday night 88-77 Syracuse win over Georgia Tech.

In 34 minutes played, Mangakahia made 12 of 23 shots from the field and 20 of her 21 free throws in a performance requiring an update of the Carrier Dome record books.  Her 44 points were good for second in overall Syracuse player history at the venue-only one short of Alexis Peterson’s 45 point performance last season (1/12/17).  She’s only a sophomore.

Adding to her large scoring contribution, Mangakahia dished eight assists.

A slow start to the game required the Orange to make a 24-4 run in the second quarter to end the half with a two-point lead (40-38).  As a result, the majority of Mangakahia’s points came in the second half. She added 29 on the scoreboard  in the second 20 minutes-13 of which came in the fourth quarter Syracuse push. The Orange ended the game with an two made free throws from Isis Young and an 11 point victory over the Yellow Jackets (http://www.syracuse.com/orangewomen/index.ssf/2018/01/syracuse_womens_basketball_vs_georgia_tech.html).

Miranda Drummond and Gabrielle Cooper finished with 13 and 11 points for Cuse, respectively. Francesca Pan contributed 26 points for her Georgia Tech team tonight as well.

Syracuse will take on Florida State next. They will host the Seminoles at 1 pm ET this Sunday.  Georgia Tech will face a tough contest against Notre Dame shortly after, at 2 pm ET.
