Take 5: Five Summitt Hoops writers thoughts on five WBB topics
Question 2: Who or what has been the disappointment to you thus far?
Schwartz- Missing a bunch of West Coast Pac-12 games. It would be nice if there was a NCAA equivalent of the WNBA’s League Pass. I would subscribe to see Stanford, Oregon and Oregon State.
Brown- The biggest disappointment so far for me has been the coverage of the games. They have only shown the big marquee games which makes fans have to find some of the games elsewhere.
Potkey- The biggest disappointment has been the TV coverage. I realize with college football season still going and a tremendous amount of men’s basketball tournaments taking place, there is only so much airtime to be had. But it would have been nice to see some of the ranked teams square off last week in tournaments without having to pay more money than has already been paid for access through cable providers. I know some conferences are experimenting with Twitter and Facebook Live games, so hopefully that is something that could be made available for these early-season showdowns in the future. This is a bit of a first-world problem considering how hard it was to even find one game on TV many years ago.
Chambers- I’m pretty disappointed in the results of the Duke/Villanova game. Duke didn’t seem settled and they allowed Villanova 40 3-point attempts. In the second half, they allowed Nova to shoot 50%.
DuDonis- My biggest disappointment may sound weird, but it comes from being a former coach and it’s something that drives me crazy. The poor playing/coaching at the end of quarters is awful. Two-for-one situations go to the wayside (mostly because they aren’t identified). Fouling or not fouling is taking valuable game time for the decision to be made. Desperation shots are either being thrown up with seconds still left when you could have gotten something much better, or no shot is getting up at all. I’m not in every practice so I won’t pretend to know what everyone discusses but it certainly seems that end of game situations aren’t being covered nearly enough. With the surplus of talent in the game, both with players and coaches, that has to change.
