The Summitt Slack Summit: Previewing the WNBA Finals
Howard: So that’s all interesting to me because I don’t disagree. And where that leaves Connecticut, really, and Washington, is fascinating. Both have ground to cover to get to the MN/LA level. Lindsay, you wrote about the Mystics in great depth this week after Sunday’s game, curious what you think they can do, if anything to get there to max Elena Delle Donne’s prime seasons coming up.
And while Lindsay answers, everybody think of their favorite Chiney Ogwumike trade idea
Brian: Can we get a Chiney injury report first, because that is kind of the issue
Howard: It’s one of the issues for sure
Lindsay: The problem that Washington is going to have is that two of their most capable players had huge streaks this year where they underperformed — Toliver and Emma. Nobody really wants to talk about it, but it’s tough, because you can’t really upgrade on talent there, but yet if they’re not performing consistently, there is no chance to get a top two seed. But, I do think that both can be better next year — this year was strange. I think the biggest thing the Mystics will look for is another solid guard from the bench and another post player from the bench. Then you hope that Tayler Hill recovers well and is playing in her early-season form.
Emma was devastated after the playoffs, so mad at herself for her performances. It was really tough to see.
But I do think it’s more about maximizing what they have now than making any huge offseason moves, because there is only so much elite talent up for grabs.
Blake: Good stuff Linds
