One day before beginning its quest for a second consecutive WNBA championship, the Los Angeles Sparks announced they have signed Brian Agler to a multi-year contract extension as head coach.

The news will help the team maintain continuity for at least the next few years.  Last February, the team announced contract extensions with several players including Candace Parker, Nneka Ogwumike, Jantel Lavender, Alana Beard and Tiffany-Jackson Jones.

Agler is the all-time winningest coach in U.S. women’s professional basketball history with 322 regular-season victories. He has lead a team resurgence since he arrived in 2015 earning a cumulative record of 66-36.

"“I am extremely excited that Head Coach Brian Agler will have a long future with the Sparks Organization,” said Sparks Executive VP/GM Penny Toler.”Agler said in a team statement that he loves “how our team and its core group have grown together and the relationships and the winning culture that we have developed.”"

Having already won a WNBA championship with the Seattle Storm, Agler will go for his third WNBA crown as a head coach on Tuesday when the Sparks take on the Phoenix Mercury at 10:00 ET. If the Sparks win the championship this year, they will be the first WNBA team to repeat as champions since they did it in 2002.
