The Money Line: WNBA odds, predictions for Friday, August 18
San Antonio Stars (+10, -105)
Seattle Storm (-10, -115)
Total:157
It’s a small sample size but since Gary Kloppenburg took over following the firing of former head coach Jenny Boucek, Seattle has won both games and are still alive in the playoff chase. We discussed the win over Minnesota earlier, a game punctuated by Crystal Langhorne scoring the winning basket after being at the right place at the right time, but Seattle also took down Phoenix prior to that. In that win, Sue Bird scored just three points but the team was carried by Langhorne, as well as stars Breanna Stewart and Jewell Loyd. Again, small sample size, but over the last two games Seattle has been much better on offense in all regards, and they proved against the Lynx that they can be a force on the defensive end as well.
The Stars must be praised for their fight down the stretch, going 5-5 over the last 10 games when they really don’t have much to play for. It has been mentioned here several times before but the play of Isabelle Harrison has been really impressive, and Kelsey Plum has shown flashes here and there. It will be interesting to see this team next year, especially if they get the first pick in the WNBA draft, and how they will play. Also, head coach Vicki Johnson only signed a one-year deal, so plenty of questions still surround this team.
I like the way Seattle has looked, and though a close game won’t shock me, I’ll still take Seattle and the over.
