WNBA Injury report: Erika de Souza still out, right leg bone bruise
San Antonio Stars announced earlier in the day that center Erika de Souza will miss tonight’s game due to a lower right leg bone bruise. She acquired the bone bruise during practice on Tuesday of this week.
The Stars acquired de Souza from Phoenix on May 7, 2016. Since the trade, de Souza has produced across the board. She also adds a veteran presence to the fairly young Stars team, having 11 seasons under her belt. Erika de Souza averages 3.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game in 12.5 minutes of play. She is a frequent starter for the team this season.
As of late, the Stars have managed to turn things around slightly. There was a spark of hope in the beginning of August as the team recorded a three-game win streak. However, the streak snapped on August 10 in the match against the Chicago Sky in a 94-74 blowout.
With a 6-22 record, the Stars are presumably out of playoff contention. They were plagued with more than a few injuries throughout the season that seemed to hinder their success. In addition to de Souza, Moriah Jefferson, Kayla McBride and Kelsey Plum have all missed games due to health issues. Players missing games on any given night make it difficult to establish consistent chemistry in lineups. The Stars have six games to finish before their season comes to an end.
The Stars will host the Dream tonight at AT&T Center in San Antonio, TX at 8:00 pm EST.
