WNBA Transaction: Washington Mystics sign Haley Peters to 7-day contract
On August 6, Haley Peters signed a 7-day contract with the Washington Mystics. The Mystics have faced an overwhelming number of injuries in the 2017 season. Though the trade deadline was July 31 8:00 PM ET, the Mystics were granted a medical hardship exemption due to their roster being short three players.
Peters, a 2014 Duke University graduate initially signed with the Mystics May 21, 2014, but was soon let go later that month. She then moved to the San Antonio Stars in April 2016, following a couple of seasons of overseas play in Spain.
In 2016, Peters averaged 5.8 points and 2.3 rebounds in 17.5 minutes. She played 34 games. Prior to the current Mystics transaction, Peters signed a training camp contract with the Stars on April 3, before being released from the club.
Prior to WNBA experience, Peters was a stand-out at Duke University and earned 2014 All-ACC Tournament second team honors. She also was a preseason candidate for the Naismith National Player of the Year.
The Washington Mystics (15-10) occupy the #4 ranking in overall league play; they are second in the Eastern Conference, trailing the 15-9 Connecticut Sun.
After their 85-80 win against Phoenix earlier today, the Mystics have almost a week off from game play before taking on the Indiana Fever on August 12 at the Verizon Center.
