Injuries have plagued several teams this year and the Connecticut Sun is not exempt. According to the team, during the August 4 game against the Phoenix Mercury, guard Jasmine Thomas suffered a left ankle sprain before the Sun ended the night with a victory.
Prior to injury, Thomas has performed ideally this season, helping the Sun to land a #1 spot in the Eastern Conference as of now and making a first-time appearance in the WNBA All-Star game as a starter for the East.
Thomas averages 14.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game in 29.1 minutes of play. She posted a career high 29 points against Seattle earlier in the season on June 29 and 11 assists against Atlanta on June 10. Her offensive efficiency and defensive intensity have been key in the success of Connecticut this year.
The Connecticut Sun has shocked many in overall team performance thus far. They are 15-9 on the season and are in a highly likely standing for playoff contention. Luckily for them, Thomas’s injury is being handled day to day.
Heading west for the next few days, the Sun will face the Seattle Storm and Dallas Wings. Connecticut has beaten the Storm in the previous two contests. However, the first Sun/Wings match-up resulted in an 82-96 Sun loss.
