The Summitt Slack Summit: Breaking down the biggest news around the trade deadline and more
Lindsay Gibbs: Well, Howard … I saw nothing!
Mike: Blame it on the rain
Howard: COMMENCE RAIN JOKES
Mike: Here comes the rain again :-p
Lindsay: The Mystics/Sun game, aka the Best of the East Battle, was rained out. It was, well, a wash.
Mike: Gently down the stream, I hope
Howard: Seriously, the look on my wife’s face when I told her your story was coming in sooner than expected because the game got rained out, so I’d be free earlier…
Arielle: bhahaha
Howard: Okay
Are these washed out of our system?
Mike: Yep, time to dry out
Lindsay: But seriously, it was disappointing — there was a really great crowd there. The Mystics haven’t played a home game in the evenings/weekend in over a month, and a lot of the Sun team had connections to the area — Jonquel, Jasmine, etc. So besides all of the talent and playoff implications on the line, there was a great atmosphere overall — more people than I’ve seen at a Mystics game in quite some time.
Howard: Yes, couldn’t agree more. It’s a really critical time, and remains so for the Mystics. They had this stretch from Friday night through August 16 with two games against their biggest competition for the all-important two seed
Arielle: Honestly, that UMD matchup was real
Howard: In between those, a bunch of home games they should have won
Should win, rather
Indiana, Phoenix without Brittney Griner
San Antonio
So this is their chance at second overall, it seems
Lindsay: Right. A lot of it comes down to guard play. That was their strength to start the year, but hasn’t been super impressive lately. Obviously, Hill being out hurts, but Toliver needs to be much more aggressive, as does Latta off of the bench.
