Shavonte Zellous leaves Minnesota game with injury

On Tuesday night, Shavonte Zellous suffered a wrist injury nearly halfway through the third quarter. The New York Liberty forward went up for a layup and came hard down on her wrist. Her layup brought New York within a point after trailing by eight points at halftime.
Zellous is averaging 12.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game for the Liberty. More importantly, she has been the consistent vocal leader of the team. The Liberty have been experimenting with the point guard position all season and Zellous has picked up a lot of the slack throughout the transition. The nine-year veteran knows won the 2012 WNBA title in Indiana and has been a huge part of the veteran presence since coming to New York in 2015.
The Liberty went on to drop a nail biter in Minnesota by a score of 76-75. The Lynx snapped a two-game winning streak for the Liberty. Losing Zellous will be a huge blow to Bill Laimbeer and the Liberty, who looked to be on the brink of figuring things out. However, Laimbeer constantly tells the media he will know who his team is in August. The new month rolls in next week, it is doubtful the Liberty planned on any type of identity without Zellous.
