The WNBA announced that 2017 All-Stars Tina Charles and Slyvia Fowles were named Player of the Week for the Eastern and Western Conference, respectively. The honors were based on performances during July 17-23.
Tina Charles extends the all-time POW awards record to 24 with the latest honor. Charles helped the Liberty defeat the Connecticut Sun on July 19. The Liberty bested the top team in the East 96-80 behind Charles’ 28 points and 19 rebounds. The Liberty now sit within one game of the Sun and the Washington Mystics in the East. New York finished the first half of the season 2-1 in a three-game home stretch at Madison Square Garden.
Slyvia Fowles posted game highs in points (24) and rebounds (12) in a 100-74 rout over the Dallas Wings on July 19. Fowles went 10-of-11 from the field to secure the win. The Lynx sit at the top of the league with a 16-2 record heading into the second half of the season. This marks her fourth POW honor this season and the 11th of her career.
As fate would have it, fans can watch both Fowles and Charles in action this Tuesday when the Lynx host the Liberty. Tip-off is set for 8:00 pm ET and will be broadcast on ESPN 2. On Friday, the Liberty take on the Fever in Indiana, while Minnesota travels to Georgia to take on the Dream.
