Injury report: Kayla McBride out for Tuesday’s Stars game
The San Antonio Stars are playing better lately, but they’ll have to continue their recent uptick in performance without Kayla McBride, who will miss Tuesday’s game against the Atlanta Dream with an ankle injury.
McBride suffered the injury during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the Connecticut Sun. After the game, Stars coach Vickie Johnson said: “We are going to take her to the hospital and get her some x-rays and just go from there. The doctor is very positive because she is able to put weight on it.”

Prior to the injury, McBride scored 14 points, the fifteenth time in seventeen games this season she’d reached double figures. She also chipped in three steals, a reminder that the Stars will miss her on both ends.
The missing McBride presents interesting alternatives for Johnson against Atlanta. A backcourt of Kelsey Plum and Moriah Jefferson, oft-discussed and seldom-used, could provide a window into how the two play together, a vital issue to resolve during this rebuilding season in San Antonio.
Alternately, the Stars may try to go bigger, to counter the effective rebounding from the Dream, not only through bigs like Sancho Lyttle and Elizabeth Williams, but perimeter board crashers like Brittney Sykes as well.
