Atlanta Dream waive Darxia Morris, sign Chelsea Hopkins

The Atlanta Dream have been fairly consistent this season, especially considering the absence of their former star, Angel McCoughtry.  Many questioned how the team will persist without the Olympian, but they have been producing just fine. However, the Dream have been playing a game of chess in deciding on a player to help the team’s offensive presence.

Chelsea Hopkins signed a seven-day contract with the Dream on Monday, July 17.  Hopkins revisits the league this season, after playing briefly with the New York Liberty in early June. Her league involvement began in 2013, playing in San Antonio. She reportedly averaged 1.5 ppg, 2.0 rpg, and 2.5 apg.

News of Hopkins’s arrival came after waiving guard Darxia Morris.  Morris has been on a roller coaster with the Dream this year, after signing a training camp contract February 2017 and being the last release before the roster was set and regular season began.  On June 26, Morris resigned and contributed to the team just over two weeks before Hopkins was signed at her expense.

The Atlanta Dream is currently 8-10 (.444) for the season.  They are ninth in standings and only have a one game separation from the #8 position-which currently belongs to the Seattle Storm.

Chelsea’s debut will come tomorrow, as the Dream hosts the San Antonio Stars for the annual Kids Day game.
