Injury report: Chicago Sky guard Cappie Pondexter out for Friday’s game at Liberty

PHOENIX, AZ - JUNE 16: Cappie Pondexter

Chicago guard Cappie Pondexter is still in the WNBA’s concussion protocol and will not play Friday night against the New York Liberty, the Sky have announced.

This will be the third game in a row that Pondexter has missed. The Sky have won each of the first two anyway, including a statement blowout over the Minnesota Lynx.

Over 15 games this season, Pondexter has struggled to find consistency, though she is averaging an even 12.0 points, to go with 5.9 assists and 3.5 rebounds per contest. And while she has posted an assist to turnover ratio of better than 2:1, that ratio has been much closer to even since early June.

In Pondexter’s absence, Courtney Vandersloot has recorded double-doubles in each of her last two games. In Chicago’s win over the Lynx, she even flirted with a triple-double, posting 26 points, handing out 13 assists, and grabbing seven rebounds.

The Sky and Liberty will tip off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Madison Square Garden. The game will be available via League Pass.
