Down 22 against a vaunted Washington Mystics team, few would have predicted that the Connecticut Sun would make Saturday night’s contest at Mohegan Sun competitive.

They did more than that, roaring back to complete the biggest comeback in franchise history, winning 96-92.

Remarkable in every way, the comeback featured a game-winning shot by Alyssa Thomas, who finished with 19 points despite playing with the flu, according to Doug Feinberg of the AP.

The scoring was balanced once again for the Sun, who finished with five players in double figures, and a sixth, Alex Bentley, close behind with eight points.

More impressive still, Connecticut overcame a 28-point outburst from Elena Delle Donne, and won despite Washington shooting 56 percent from three.

For the Mystics, the concern has to be finishing games, having lost a 17-point lead to Los Angeles last week, and now entering the record books at Mohegan Sun.

And for the good people of Uncasville, there’s a show even more exciting that this past week’s combination of Boyz 2 Men and New Kids on the Block. The Sun now sit third in the WNBA standings, atop the East, but more importantly would earn a first-round bye in the playoffs.

With each passing game—the Sun have now gone 10-3 over their past 13 to erase a rough early start—it’s looking more and more like fans hoping to get out to Connecticut for some slots, a little Bobby’s Burger Palace and some truly transcendent basketball will have a place to go this fall.
