Renee Montgomery had a big night for the Lynx tonight – and she didn’t even start.

She scored 20 points in her 25 minutes of playing – a season high – and tied for the top scorer on her team with Sylvia Fowles. Both were just behind the game’s top scorer, Nneka Ogwumike (who had 27 points). And Montgomery was 4-5 at the three, the best by far out of anyone on the Lynx.

When Montgomery showed up for the Minnesota team, along with Fowles, Seimone Augustus and Maya Moore, the Sparks just couldn’t contend. Candace Parker, the usual standout forward, scored only two points in the game, and the rest of her teammates struggled against the Lynx powerhouse defense. Even though Ogwumike was able to get physical in the paint, she couldn’t pull her team through in the end.

Montgomery will definitely be one to watch, as will the Lynx, as the season progresses and they look to revenge last year’s title loss. The Lynx next face the Chicago Sky this Saturday at 8 p.m. in Illinois.
