The Summitt staff votes: WNBA Western Conference All Stars
West frontcourt: Brittney Griner, Phoenix Mercury
Here’s the thing: Brittney Griner was a top-10 player in win shares per 48 minutes coming into the 2017 season. So her improvement in true shooting percentage (up to 63.2 percent, a career-high) even as she dramatically increased her shot load (28.1 usage percentage, compared to 21.7 a year ago) and more than doubled her assist percentage is testament to the development possibilities all have assumed were in Griner’s future. Only Sylvia Fowles’ campaign has hidden the evolution of Griner, who recently told The Summitt she has even bigger ideas ahead of her.
