WNBA President Lisa Borders expressed her support for Jon Ossoff on Tuesday as voters in Georgia’s 6th congressional district head to the polls.

Ossoff, a Democrat, is running against Republican Karen Handel to fill Tom Price’s seat in the House of Representatives. Price is now President Trump’s Secretary of Health and Human Services.

The special election has drawn national attention and is now the most expensive House race in history, as Democrats see a chance to flip what had been a reliably red district.

While it may seem strange for a league president or commissioner to publicly express support for a political candidate, it’s important to remember that Borders is, herself, a former Georgia politician. She previously served as President of the Atlanta City Council and ran for mayor of Atlanta in 2009.
